The Real Game Series
Be Real

For Years 10 & 11 and Post 16
The Be Real game can be used as a foundation tool at KS4 to bring synergy to CEG, WRL, Enterprise and the wider personal development curriculum. It can also be used in post 16 work-based learning and FE settings to deliver KS4 CEG outcomes for level 1 and 2 students.
The Be Real game is designed to support the 14-19 agenda by exploring different pathways and routes into learning, developing occupational skills and transferable skills.
Students learn how a person’s career is built by everyday choices and decisions, starting in childhood which encompass every area of life including:
- Family
- Friends
- Education
- Recreational activities
- Lifestyle choices
- Community involvement, and;
- Dealing with labour market conditions.
They role-play an adult worker in a variety of employment and family situations. Students can explore in depth the importance of transferable skills, self-knowledge, lifelong learning, career planning and financial management. They are exposed to dozens of occupational possibilities and encouraged to actively pursue their dreams. Students will benefit by recognising and appreciating the options open to them and being more confident about making the decisions that will impact on their future years.
Be Real and Enterprise
It delivers most of the learning outcomes for WRL for both enterprise and financial capability, skills and knowledge, in addition to CEG. KS4 students are engaged in a variety of activities including examining personal effectiveness and developing a ‘can do’ approach. Students also experience individual learning, team working, decision-making, innovation and economic and business understanding.
Teachers are able to expand the "my lifestyle" section where students experience problem solving and making monthly budgets meet. Students use entrepreneurial skills in a limited way by identifying opportunities within their roles for creating additional income. Teachers might extend this by discussing business start up, recognising market opportunities, support available and a general understanding of how business works.
